Area Introduction...

Gloucester Road has a busy underground and subsurface train station at its intersection with Cromwell Road. It is situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

It runs from north to south between Kensington Gardens and the Old Brompton Road at the south end. St. Stephen's church, which was built in 1867 is nearby and famously T.S Eliot was a churchwarden there.

The road is named after Maria, the Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh who had a house built there in 1805. Before that it was called Hog Moore Lane, that is 'lane through marshy ground where hogs are kept', a name that was still in use until 1850.

The area is one of the more affluent places in London and has been home to some famous residents such as John Everett Millais, J.M Barrire and the fictional barrister Horace Rumpole, from John Mortimer's Rumple of the Bailey Stories.

It is also houses several embassies and consulates including the Korean Consulate, the Bahraini Embassy Cultural Office and the Zambian High Commission.

There are several good bars and restaurants in the area including The Hereford Arms, which serves British food and a dine selection of real ale. There are many sensual masseuses based in this area both those who work independently and those who work through booking agencies.

So all in all it is the perfect place to take some time out, as once you have finished your tantic massage session you can pop in for a pint at some of the nice pubs in the area.
