Area Introduction...

Liverpool Street is a railway and underground station in the east of the city. It is the London terminus of the lines to Cambridge, Norwich and other destinations in the east of England.

During WW1, the station was bombed killing 162 people, the deadliest attack on British soil during the First World War, and was a precursor of things to come a few decades later in WW2.

The area has some great pubs including The Magpie, which serves real ales and pub grub on the site of an old ambulance station.

This station has been the first to have an electric ambulance in 1909. The Lord Aberconway pub is nearby which is reputedly haunted by victims of The Great Fire of London.

It serves real ales and hearty food in a 19th century building. A monument to the Great Fire stands nearby.
